Work, work, and Tanzania!
I haven't posted in a long time because I'm absolutely swamped with work. For the first time ever, I've been consistently working on MathScore.com on weekends. The reason why is because I'm rewriting the parent interface to the home version completely from scratch. I don't want to get into details, but the contractor who built the first home version interface did a shoddy job, and I finally got fed up enough to design a complete replacement. The good news is that is coming along really nicely. The tough thing is running my day to day operations and then throwing massive programming efforts on top of that.
On the school side of things, we're offering free trials to schools so that they can more easily make a purchase decision for next school year. We've more than doubled the number of schools actively using MathScore as a result, and we reach schools in about half of the 50 states. I just went to two educational conferences, one in Hawaii, and one in Modesto. Soon, I will exhibit at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics conference, which will have about 17,000 attendees. I spent good money on a really professional brochure, hired another marketing person, and I even purchased my first LCD projector in preparations for the show. I also have a speaker slot at the National Charter Schools Conference in April. I'll be doing an exhibitor presentation with space for up to 60 people to watch.
Tanzania!
In July, I have the honor of being best man to my good friend Leigh, a former coworker from my Direct Hit days. He's marrying an Indian woman whose family lives in Tanzania, so we're currently coordinating travel plans to get there. This will be our first Indian wedding (a multi-day affair), so we are really looking forward to it. While we are there, Pearlin and I will visit Zanzibar (apparently a popular honeymoon destination) and do a safari in Tanzania, most likely for 7 days. Afterward, we're going to visit my sister's family (3 children!) in Switzerland for about 7 days. When we get back from that trip, I'm sure I'll have a ton of photos. I'll probably purchase a new camera specifically for that trip. Overall, our trip will last about 3 weeks. I wish we could stay longer, but I can only afford to take so much time off of MathScore.
There is so much detail I'm skipping regarding the past 3 months, but I gotta eat some lunch...
